Shahabuddin set to become president as no other nominations submitted

Mohammed Shahabuddin, the ruling Awami League's nominee, is all set to become Bangladesh's 22nd president as no other party has submitted nominations for presidential candidates.

Election Commission officials this evening confirmed that Shahabuddin's was the sole nomination.

The deadline for submitting nomination papers was 4:00pm today.

Around 11:00am today, a ruling party delegation led by its General Secretary Obaidul Quader submitted Shahabuddin's nomination papers at the Election Commission.

EC sources earlier said if no other nominations were submitted they would announce Shahabuddin as president-elect after scrutiny of nomination papers, scheduled for tomorrow.
