Rangpur jolted by late-night earthquake

Rangpur and its surrounding areas experienced another earthquake late at night. This marks the third significant tremor since November last year.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the earthquake struck at 3:06am with a magnitude of 5.5. The epicentre was 10 kilometres south of Kodari, near the Nepal-China border, at a depth of 10 kilometres.

The tremor lasted only a few seconds, and no reports of casualties or damage have been received so far.

This follows a February 8 earthquake that occurred at 6:48pm, lasting nearly 10 seconds with a magnitude of 5.0. The epicentre of that tremor was in Assam, India.

Additionally, on January 7, a 7.05-magnitude earthquake was recorded at 7:07am, originating from Nepal's Lechin region.

A smaller tremor was also reported on November 21 last year at 2:02pm, measuring 3.1 in magnitude, with its epicentre in Rangpur itself.
