Election Commissioner Md Anwarul Islam Sarker today said that the Election Commission (EC) is preparing to hold the national election by December.

He also vowed to hold a fair and credible election.

He made the remarks while speaking to reporters after a meeting held on updating the 2025 voter list at the Manikganj Deputy Commissioner's office around 5:00pm.

He said about 16 lakh deceased voters will be removed from the voter list. It will be done during the voter list updating process and strict measured will be taken so that no one can manipulate the list.

"The Election Commission has already reviewed the necessary steps for conducting a good election and erasing the shame of the past," he said.

"We will make decisions based on the reform report and work accordingly," he added.

The meeting was chaired by Manikganj Deputy Commissioner Manwar Hossain Mollah and attended by EC Private Secretary Md Kamruzzaman, Dhaka Regional Election Officer Md Yunus Ali, Police Superintendent Mosammat Yasmin Khatun, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Atikul Islam Mamun, District Election Officer Md Nazim Uddin, among others.
