A mild cold wave is sweeping over Panchagarh, with the lowest temperature recorded at 9.5 degrees Celsius in Tetulia at 9:00 am today, according to the Tetulia Weather Observatory Centre.

Tetulia's temperature was recorded at 10.0 degrees Celsius yesterday, 10.7 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, 10.1 degrees Celsius on Monday, 9.9 degrees Celsius on Sunday, and 9.7 degrees Celsius on Saturday, said Jitendra Nath, assistant officer at the observatory.

As per meteorological classifications, a mild cold wave is defined as temperatures between 8 degrees Celsius and 10 degrees Celsius, while a moderate cold wave ranges from 6 degrees Celsius to 8 degrees Celsius, and a severe cold wave occurs when temperatures fall below 6 degrees Celsius.

The persistent cold has significantly affected low-income communities in northern districts, including Panchagarh and Thakurgaon, disrupting livelihoods and daily routines.

Dhonewary Roy, 30, a maize field worker from Dakkhin Bothina village in Thakurgaon Sadar upazila, said working in the open fields has become difficult due to the biting cold.

Rickshaw-puller Mahbub, 40, from Thakurgaon city, said his daily earnings have dropped as fewer people venture outside unless necessary.

"Riding a rickshaw in the morning and evening is tough in this cold weather," he added.

Poor visibility caused by dense fog has also disrupted transport, with drivers keeping their headlights on long after sunrise.

The region recorded a maximum temperature of 23.0 degrees Celsius yesterday.
