Liberation War mural shrouded on Independence Day

A mural installed at the Liberation War Memorial stage in Lalmonirhat was found covered with a cloth on Independence Day on March 26.
Both Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) and the Conscious Citizens Committee (CCC) have strongly protested and condemned this incident.
The Liberation War Memorial is located opposite the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) camp on College Road in Lalmonirhat town, and the stage has a mural depicting the 1952 Language Movement, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's March 7 speech, the formation of the Mujibnagar government, and the surrender of the Pakistan army, among other historical events.
TIB Area Coordinator Morshed Alam said, "On Independence Day, we went to the Freedom Fighters' Memorial to pay our respects. At that time, we saw the stage next to the memorial with the murals covered with cloth. We were shocked. Instead of offering floral wreaths there, we went to the Railway Martyrs' Memorial on Station Road and paid our respects."
TIB said that the district administration covered the murals with the piece of cloth yesterday.
Earlier, on December 16 last year, the district administration had done a similar thing on the occasion of Victory Day.
CCC's Lalmonirhat District Unit President, freedom fighter Captain (retd) Azizul Islam Birpratik said, "That mural contains brief reminders of a series of events from 1952 to 1971. The incident of covering it with a cloth has deeply saddened me. This is unacceptable,"
"Covering our history and monuments means denying the spirit of the Liberation War," he added.
When asked about the incident, Lalmonirhat Deputy Commissioner HM Raqib Hayder said that the mural was covered with a cloth due to objections from July Revolution activists.
