Govt urges action to fill vacant posts across ministries

The Ministry of Public Administration today directed all ministries, divisions, subordinate offices, agencies, and field offices to take immediate action to address vacant positions and submit progress reports to it within 15 working days.
A letter issued today, signed by Senior Secretary Md Mokhles ur Rahman, highlighted the urgency of filling approximately 4,73,001 authorised vacancies in the government, representing nearly one-fourth of the 20 lakh revenue sector positions, as per the Statistics of Government Servants-2023.
While the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC) is responsible for recruiting the first-class, first-class non-cadre, and limited second-class officers, the letter emphasised that filling other positions lies with individual ministries, divisions, and subordinate bodies.
Recently, the BPSC announced plans to recruit 3,688 officers through the 47th BCS examination.
The directive, sent to secretaries of ministries, heads of autonomous bodies, and senior field officials, called for a coordinated effort to promptly fill the vacancies as per the authorised quotas.
The ministries have been asked to report on steps taken and ongoing initiatives to address the issue.
