Each JS body member on religious affairs ministry wants to send 3 representatives for Hajj

Each members of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Religious Affairs wants to send three representatives to Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj this year.
The committee has recommended the ministry take action in this regard.
However, the ministry has said a limited number of people from Bangladesh are getting the opportunity to perform Hajj this year compared to the previous years. Therefore, each member of the parliamentary watchdog may be allowed to send two representatives.
The discussion was held at a meeting of the parliamentary watchdog at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban today (May 12, 2022).
However, it was not finalised -- whether a lawmaker would get the opportunity to send two or three representatives to perform Hajj this year at the cost of public money.
The parliamentary standing committee is comprised of 10 members including the State Minister for Religious Affairs Faridul Haque Khan.
If each MP gets the opportunity to send three representatives, a total of 30 people will have to be sent to perform Hajj this year.
Performing Hajj under government management will cost a minimum of Tk 4,62,150 per person and a maximum of Tk 5,27,340.
Earlier in 2019, on the recommendation of each member of the parliamentary committee, five people got the opportunity to perform hajj at the government's expense.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, no one from Bangladesh got a chance to perform Hajj in the last two years.
According to the sources, Awami League MP Manoranjan Shil Gopal from Dinajpur-1 first raised the issue in a meeting of the parliamentary watchdog held in December last year.
He had requested to send five people to perform hajj as per his recommendation. Committee member Najibul Bashar Maizbhandari seconded him.
The committee then recommended the religious affairs ministry take action in this regard.
Today, the ministry told the committee that a total of 57,585 people from Bangladesh will get the opportunity to perform the Hajj this year.
Ruhul Amin Madani, chairman of the parliamentary committee, said the state minister told the meeting that each of the members of the parliamentary committee will be able to send two representatives.
However, the members of the committee asked to send three people.
The ministry, however, will decide in this regard.
