Dhanmondi 32 demolition a possible bid to ruin democracy

Reacting to the demolition of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's Dhanmondi-32 residence, BNP Standing Committee member Maj (retd) Hafizuddin Ahmed yesterday said these actions might be aimed at "destroying democracy".
He added that such actions might lead to chaos and hinder democratic progress in future.
Speaking at a discussion at the Jatiya Press Club, the BNP leader said his party would investigate whether a neighbouring country had any involvement in the incident.
Hafizuddin further said, "The incident that took place yesterday [Wednesday] is still ongoing. It has not yet ended. We don't have any information on who was behind it. We also don't know the government's role in it. Therefore, we will wait a little longer.
"Hopefully, by the end of today [Thursday], everything will become clear -- who was behind this and who is responsible. Once we have all the information, BNP will share its stance with the media. It would not be right to comment without all information."
He further stressed the necessity of holding a national election within the year and urged the interim government to take action against what he described as conspiracies against democracy.
"I urge the interim government to take immediate steps against all forms of chaos and conspiracies against democracy. Holding a national election as soon as possible is necessary to address the issues."
Terming the interim government "weak", the BNP leader alleged that "several advisers of this government played wearing Hasina's team jersey and had not made any Facebook posts over the last 15 years".
