Clashes break out in Sylhet

Clashes broke out between the police and the protesters around 12:00pm today, half an hour after hundreds of demonstrators gathered at the Court Point area in the city of Sylhet as part of their non-cooperation movement.
During the clash, police lobbed teargas shells and fired shotgun and sound grenade to disperse the protesters, reports our Sylhet correspondent.
Chhatra League, Jubo League, and Shwecchashebak League members were also seen clashing with protesters.
As protesters dispersed from Bandar Bazar to nearby areas, ruling party activists took control of the Bandar Bazar area amid chases and counter chases.
Earlier, around 11:30am, hundreds of protesters started gathering at the scene and adjacent areas carrying bamboo sticks and national flags, and they were heard chanting slogans demanding resignation of the government.
Sylhet District BNP President Abdul Quiyum Chowdhury and other top BNP leaders also brought out a procession.
All shopping malls, shops, and other establishments have been closed since the morning.
No long-distance or inter-district buses left the city since the morning. Some local vehicles are seen plying in other areas of the city.
