BSF returns 2 Bangladeshis held while making 'TikTok videos' in Indian part

The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) early today returned two Bangladeshi youths, who had been detained at Patgram border in Lalmonirhat.

They were handed over through a flag meeting between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and BSF around 3:30am, Nayek Subedar Moktar Hossain, commander of the 61 BGB Battalion's Dhabalsuti BOP camp, told The Daily Star.

The youths were later returned to their families, Nayek Subedar said.

"The two Bangladeshi youths had illegally entered India and made TikTok videos in the tea gardens," he added.

One of the detainees is 22-year-old Sajedul Islam, while the other is a 16-year-old boy, the BGB official said.

According to BGB officials, the two youths had entered an Indian tea garden through Sub Pillar 1-S of Main Border Pillar 825 in the no-man's-land area on Gatiarvita border around 6:00pm yesterday. They were recording TikTok videos on their mobile phones when BSF members on patrol detained them.

Local residents alerted BGB personnel at the Dhabalsuti BOP camp. Upon communication with the BSF camp, the incident was confirmed.

Following contact between the BGB Rangpur Sector Commander and the BSF Jalpaiguri Sector Commander, BSF released the detained youths through a flag meeting.

Sajedul said, "We entered the Indian tea garden at no-man's-land without realising it. We were taking some pictures and recording videos at the tea garden. At that time, BSF members detained us."
