Mohammad Shibli Kaiser, deputy commissioner of Rangpur Metropolitan Police (crime), has been withdrawn and attached to the Police Headquarters.

An order, signed by Kazi Fazlul Karim, deputy inspector general of police (administration), was issued yesterday in this regard.

The move follows allegations of bribery and assault against Shibli, said police sources.

Habibur Rahman, deputy commissioner of Rangpur Metropolitan Police, told The Daily Star that Shibli allegedly assaulted a complainant, Palash Hasan, who went to the Kotwali Police Station to file a case on March 13.

Besides, Shibli attempted to shoot Palash by taking a constable's rifle during the incident, according to a general diary filed by Palash.

Shibli also slapped a police inspector during the incident, police sources said.

An investigation is underway in this connection.

In another incident, a case was filed against some activists of Hindu Jagaran Mancha over attacking those of Zia Mancha in Rangpur city on January 3. Shibli put pressure on the officer-in-charge of the Kotwali Police Station to drop the names of two accused. As a BNP leader protested it, Shibli asked the OC to send him to jail after lodging a case against him, according to police sources.

This correspondent could not contact Shibli for comment.
