The body of a garment worker, who was killed in Dhaka's Ashulia area on August 5 during the mass uprising, was exhumed this afternoon for autopsy.

Following a court order, the body of Sumon Islam, 21, was exhumed from the family graveyard and taken to Panchagarh Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy in presence of Executive Magistrate and Assistant Commissioner (Land) SM Fuad.

According to Sub-Inspector Monirul Islam, the investigation officer of the case from Ashulia Police Station, Sumon was allegedly shot dead by Awami League activists during the student movement in Ashulia.

His family received the body from Dhaka Medical College Hospital on August 7 and buried him the next day in their village graveyard without an autopsy.

Later, on September 5, Sumon's mother, Kajoli Begum, filed a case with Ashulia Police Station, accusing 88 named individuals and around 200 unnamed persons in connection with his death.

Following an application from the investigating officer, the Senior Judicial Magistrate, Dhaka Court-01, issued an exhumation order in the first week of December.
