Advisory council to continue duties until handover to elected government

Interim govt clarifies Mahfuj Alam’s remarks, says reform activities will continue as planned

The advisory council will continue to discharge its regular duties and hold meetings as usual until responsibilities are handed over to the elected government, the interim government said today.

The clarification came after Mahfuj Alam, adviser to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, made comments that some media reports suggested could indicate a possible early cessation of council activities.

At the "Meet the Reporters" event organised by Dhaka Reporters Unity yesterday, Mahfuj Alam hinted that the advisory council meetings might not continue past November.

However, the interim government's statement said, "It is not correct that the reform activities and formulation of policies undertaken by the government must be completed by November. Rather, the reform activities will continue in full swing."
