2 city officials withdrawn after PM drives around Dhaka inspecting clean-up drive
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today ordered the withdrawal of two regional executive officers of the Dhaka North and Dhaka South city corporations after personally inspecting parts of the capital and finding Qurbani (sacrificial) waste and previously accumulated garbage lying on the roads.
The officials were attached to the Ministry of Public Administration this afternoon, and departmental proceedings were ordered against them over allegations of negligence in duty.
State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development (LGRD) and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam confirmed the development to the media.
The withdrawn officials are Kazi Saleh Mustanzir, regional executive officer of Zone-1 of Dhaka South City Corporation, and Md Sadekur Rahman, regional executive officer of Zone-5 of Dhaka North City Corporation. Both are deputy secretary-level officials.
Officials said Qurbani waste and old garbage were found on roads in Hatirpool, Elephant Road, Green Road, Farmgate and Karwan Bazar areas during the prime minister’s inspection.
The state minister said immediate action was taken as the officials concerned were found negligent in removing waste from those areas.
