The government has renamed the Bangabandhu Bridge as Jamuna Bridge and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel as Karnaphuli Tunnel.

Bridges Division issued a circular in this regard today which will come into force immediately, Tabibur Rahman, joint secretary of the division confirmed to The Daily Star.

The 4.8km bridge over Jamuna River was inaugurated in June 1998 while the country's first ever tunnel under Karnaphuli River in Chattogram was opened to traffic in October 2023.
