Body formed to recommend allocation of 'dearness allowance' for govt employees

The interim government has formed a seven-member committee, headed by the principal secretary to the chief adviser, to recommend the allocation of 'dearness allowance' for government employees under the National Pay Scale 2015.
The Finance Division of the Finance Ministry on Wednesday issued an office order to this end signed by Deputy Secretary Syed Ali Bin Hassan.
It says the committee will generate recommendations after reviewing the issue.
Additional secretary (regulation) of the finance division has been made member-secretary of the committee.
Other members of the committee are senior secretary of the Public Administration Ministry, Comptroller and Auditor General, secretary of the finance division, secretary of the Chief Adviser's Office, and secretary of the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division of the Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ministry.
As per terms of reference of the committee, it will review the applicability and entitlement of the dearness allowance, and submit necessary recommendations, and may co-opt one or more officials if needed.
According to the finance ministry statistics, the government has allocated Tk 81,580 crore in the 2024-2025 fiscal budget for salaries and allowances of government employees which is 15.80 percent of the revenue budget.
Since the last fiscal budget, the government has been providing five percent as a "special increment" for government employees which is effective at present.
