Counting of votes in the by-election to Gaibandha-5 constituency is underway after polling ended this evening.

Voting began at 8:30am and ended at 4:30pm at 145 polling stations in Saghata and Fulchhari upazilas.

While the voter turnout was very low in the morning, the number of voters increased in some centres in the afternoon, reports our Bogura correspondent. But voting through EVMs was reported to be quite slow.

No untoward incident was reported during this time.

On October 12, the Election Commission had stopped voting in the by-election to the constituency due to allegations of widespread irregularities.

Members of law enforcement agencies were seen visiting different centres of Saghata and Fulchhari upazilas.
