Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur authorities have formed a three-member committee to investigate the allegations of a former Chhatra League leader "passing an exam" without appearing for it.

Suraiya Yasmin Oishi, a Master's student of mathematics, allegedly passed her first-semester mid-terms in December, without taking it.

BRU Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Shawkat Ali formed the probe committee in this regard last evening after the results were published. The committee has been tasked to submit the report as early as possible.

The committee is being led by acting controller of examinations Md Tanziul Islam, with Director of Student Counselling and Guidance Prof Md Ilias Pramanik and Associate Mathematics Prof Md Hannan Mia as members.

Oishi, organisational secretary of the BRU unit BCL, has been in hiding since the murder of Abu Sayed on July 16, although some students have claimed that she has been participating in campus activities.

The controversy centring her results came up when her classmates claimed they did not see Oishi sit for the mid-terms exam with them.

The Daily Star called Oishi on her phone for comments. She did not receive the calls but later replied via WhatsApp that she had indeed appeared for the exam.

Associate Prof Md Hannan Mia, chairman of the department's exam committee, said, "The course instructors are responsible for these matters. We receive the results from them and forward them to the Controller of Examinations."

However, Prof Ruhul Amin, the course instructor, declined to comment on the matter.
