12 students expelled from Comilla University over ragging

Twelve students of Comilla University (CoU) have been suspended for one semester and expelled from the halls over ragging.
The university's acting registrar Professor Mohammad Anwar Hossain confirmed the matter yesterday.
Of them, seven are from the marketing department, five from anthropology. All the students are from the 2023–24 academic session.
They have been banned from residing in any university halls during their studentship.
He said, "Based on complaints from students of the 2024–25 session, we formed an investigation committee. The committee found the allegations to be true.
"As a result, following the decision of the university's disciplinary committee, 12 students -- seven from marketing and five from anthropology -- have been suspended for one semester."
Professor Md Abdul Hakim, the university proctor and member secretary of the disciplinary committee, said, "Based on the investigation report, a recommendation was made to suspend 12 students for one semester. Furthermore, they have been barred from staying in the university halls permanently and must resume classes only after their guardians sign a bond."
He added, "The university maintains a zero-tolerance policy against ragging."
It should be noted that on July 2, students from the 2024–25 session of the marketing department filed a complaint against their seniors from the 2023–24 session.
Similarly, on July 6, students of the anthropology department submitted complaints to the proctorial body regarding similar issues.
