Foreign adviser to meet Jaishankar on sidelines of Indian Ocean Conference

Foreign Adviser Touhid Hossain is set to meet with his Indian counterpart, Subrahmaniam Jaishankar, on the sidelines of the two-day 8th Indian Ocean Conference in Oman's Muscat, reported the Hindu citing sources.

The conference, hosted jointly by the Indian foreign ministry and the Omani government, and organised by a Delhi-based think tank India Foundation, will host 27 countries including foreign ministers from Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Nepal.

China's special envoy for Middle East Affairs, Zhai Jun, is also set to attend, marking the first time an official from the country has been invited since 2019, reported the Hindu.

Touhid Hossain's meeting with S Jaishankar is particularly significant as it comes immediately following a high-power Trump-Modi meet in the US where the Indian prime minister had reportedly spoken about his concerns with the interim government in Bangladesh led by Nobel laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus.

Earlier on Thursday, US president, Donald Trump, had summarily dismissed any involvement of the US deep state as suggested by an Indian journalist.

Although the US president left the question about Bangladesh for Modi to answer, the Indian premier refrained from addressing the question.

Indian Foreign Secretary, Vikram Misri, said later that Modi had shared "his views and, indeed, his concerns" about Bangladesh during his bilateral meeting with Trump.
