Three held for torturing youth with dogs over theft claim in Cumilla
Three people have been detained in Cumilla's Burichang upazila after a video went viral showing a young man being tortured with dogs inside a mill on suspicion of theft.
The victim, Shree Joy, 32, of Maizkhar village in Chandina upazila, was attacked after being accused of stealing.
The video shows Joy being bitten by two dogs and beaten with sticks by several men. He cries out in pain and agony, begging for his life.
Following the incident, Rab-11, CPC-2, Cumilla Camp Commander Major Sadman Ibne Alam led a joint operation with Burichang police, during which three suspects — Shanto Islam, Mohammad Lipu, and Sojib — were detained.
According to local sources, theft incidents had been recurring inside Sakura Steel Mill, often during Friday Juma prayers. Yesterday, some guards and workers skipped prayers to catch a suspected thief. When Joy entered the mill during the prayer, the guards released two dogs on him before he was further beaten with sticks.
