Robbery at BAT warehouse in Shariatpur: 3 arrested, over Tk 18 lakh recovered

Shariatpur police have arrested three persons over the robbery at the British American Tobacco Limited warehouse in Majid Zarina Foundation Market, Palang.

They are Meheraj, 50, Morshed, 30, and Milan Molla, 30. The three were arrested in Khulna, said Shariatpur District Police Superintendent Md Nazrul Islam.

From the stolen sum of Tk 13,425,507, police have recovered Tk 1,858,965, he said.

He said between 1:00am and 4:30am on January 26, a gang of robbers went inside the second-floor warehouse by cutting through a window grill.

They assaulted and tied up assistant warehouse keeper, assistant computer operator and peon before breaching the cash vault and escaping with around Tk 1.34 crore.

The robbers also stole 16 CCTV cameras, a DVR system, and an NDR system to cover their tracks, he said.

Following a case filed by BAT representative Shafiul Alam Shihab at Palang Model Police Station, Shariatpur police and the Detective Branch launched an investigation and arrested the three.
