RMG worker raped in Sreepur, 3 held

A 23-year-old garment worker was gang-raped and her male colleague tortured in Gazipur's Sreepur on Wednesday.

The incident took place at a rented house in Sreepur municipality, said police.

On Saturday (January 11), the woman filed a case with Sreepur Police Station against four named and three unidentified persons.

Police arrested three people -- Sagar, 25, Ashraful Islam, 29, and Monirul Islam Nirab, 18, in this connection, said Nayan Kar, officer-in-charge (operations) of Sreepur Police Station.

Another named accused Yasin, 24, is absconding.

According to the case statement, the woman, who is married, received a call from her colleague on Wednesday, asking her to come to an intersection in the town.

Once she reached the spot, one of the accused, Sagar, took her to a house.

Inside the house, she saw her colleague being tortured by the accused, who demanded Tk 50,000 for his release.

When she refused, they locked her in a room and raped her. She was released on Friday morning after they took her phone and Tk 10,000.

Joynal Abedin Mondal, officer-in-charge of Sreepur Police Station, said the arrestees would be produced before a Gazipur court today (January 12).

Efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining suspects, he added.
