Panchagarh BCL president placed on five-day remand

A Panchagarh court today placed Abu Hasan Md Noman, 32, president of the Panchagarh unit of the now-banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), on a five-day remand in connection with the kidnapping and murder of Al Amin, a local easy-bike driver, on August 5.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Jahidur Rahman passed the order after Manik Mia, sub-inspector of Panchagarh Police Station and the investigation officer of the case, produced Noman before the court with a five-day remand plea. The court also rejected Noman's bail plea during the hearing.
According to SM Masud Pervez, officer-in-charge (OC) of Panchagarh Police Station, Noman was arrested on February 27 from Dhonipara village in Nilphamari Sadar upazila during a Rab-13 operation following a police requisition.
Noman has been named as the 5th accused in the case, which also includes 19 other named individuals and 150 unidentified persons. The case was filed by Al Amin's father, Manu Mia, on November 10, 2024 at the Panchagarh Sadar Police Station.
As per the case statement, Al Amin, a resident of Darjeepara in Panchagarh municipality, left home on August 5 to join a protest. On his way back with friends Rifat and Sujan, they were allegedly intercepted by a group linked to the Awami League outside the residence of Sadman Sakib.
The group reportedly attacked them with sharp weapons and forcibly took Al Amin inside Sadman's house. While Rifat and Sujan were later rescued, Al Amin remained missing.
Al Amin's family initially filed a General Diary (GD) on August 14. After three months of his disappearance, his father filed a formal case against Awami League leaders and activists.
