One killed in clash at Mohammadpur Geneva Camp

A 20-year-old youth was killed in a clash between two groups at Mohammadpur Geneva Camp in Dhaka early today.
The deceased, Zahid, was a resident of Geneva Camp who used to work at a mobile servicing shop in Kalyanpur area, said his brother-in-law Md Ujjal.
Police said the explosion occurred around 3:30am during a clash between two groups in the camp area.
Critically injured in the blast, Zahid was first taken to Trauma Centre and later to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors declared him dead around 4:30am.
Confirming the death, Inspector Md Farouk, in-charge of the DMCH police camp, said the body was kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy.
Md Atikur Rahman Jewel, duty officer at Mohammadpur Police Station, said they received information early in the morning about several crude bomb explosions during a clash between two groups at Geneva Camp.
"A police team was dispatched to the spot immediately, but the situation had already calmed down by then. Locals said one person was injured in the incident and taken to a hospital," he added, noting that further details are being investigated.
Ujjal, however, claimed that Zahid was not involved in the clash and had gone out with friends when he got caught in the middle of the violence.
"A crude bomb exploded near his leg, leaving him critically injured," he said.
Police said additional forces have been deployed in the area to prevent any further untoward incidents.
