One held in Primeasia student Parvez murder in Cumilla

A named accused in the murder case of Zahidul Islam Parvez, a student of Primeasia University, was arrested early today from Titas upazila of Cumilla.

A joint team of of Rab-11 and Titas police arrested Hridoy Miazi, 23, from a house in Monairkandi village, said Titas Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Shahid Ullah.

He said acting on a tip-off, a team raided the house of the accused's uncle in the upazila. The arrestee, joint member secretary of the Banani Thana Committee of the Students Against Discrimination, hails from Doolbodi village of the upazila.

Rab handed over Hridoy to Banani Police Station this evening, confirmed its OC Russel Sarwar.

He will be produced before a court tomorrow, he added.

Parvez, 24, a student of the textile engineering department, was stabbed to death around 4:40pm Saturday.

The victim's cousin Humayun Kabir filed the case with Banani Police Station early Sunday, naming eight individuals, including 2 SAD leaders, and 25-30 unnamed others, said OC Russel.

According to the case statement, around 3:00pm, an altercation broke out between Parvez and three students of the same university over allegations of harassing two female students from another university.

The spat was resolved after university authorities intervened.

However, later around 4:30pm, Parvez was stabbed in the chest by a group of youths in front of the campus.

A Dhaka court yesterday placed three individuals on a seven-day remand after they were arrested in connection with the case.
