A man was arrested for allegedly raping a three-year-old girl in Gazipur Sadar upazila today.

The accused is Yunus Ali, 65, of Kurigram's Ulipur upazila who now lives in Gazipur, said police.

The victim's father is a rickshaw puller and her mother works in a garment factory in Gazipur.

Quoting locals, police said when the couple went out for work this morning, the child was alone in their rented house. At that time, their neighbour Yunus entered the house and raped the girl.

When the girl started screaming, locals rushed there and rescued the girl.

Later, the victim's mother filed a case this afternoon and police arrested Yunus in the evening, said Abdul Halim, officer-in-charge of Joydebpur Police Station.
