Man allegedly killed by son and daughter in Moulvibazar

A man was allegedly killed by his son and daughter following a family dispute in Moulvibazar's Sadar upazila last night.

The deceased Muslim Mia, 47, was a resident of Bagorghar village under the Chandni Ghat union.

His son, Munna Mia, went into hiding after the incident, said Md Mahbubur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Moulvibazar Police Station.

Quoting locals, the OC said that Muslim's wife returned home on Friday after a medical check-up, and she had been planning to go abroad. But when she came back, a quarrel erupted with her husband Muslim centring her plan to travel abroad.

Yesterday evening, the dispute between them escalated as their son and daughter got involved, and during the altercation, the siblings allegedly attacked their father with a sharp weapon, OC Mahbubur said quoting the locals.

Munna took his father to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital, claiming that his father had fallen from a tree and sustained injuries. After providing initial treatment, the duty doctor referred the victim to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for further care.

Muslim Mia later died on the way to Sylhet.

Once the news of his death spread in the area, locals detained his daughter, Munni Akhter, and handed her over to the police.

Police have recovered the body and sent it to Sadar Hospital for an autopsy.

OC Mahbubur said that the primary investigation suggested that the victim's children were responsible for his death.

He added that a case was in the process of being filed at the police station.
