A man has been accused of raping his 5-year-old niece in Lalmonirhat's Hatibandha upazila yesterday.

The victim's family members and police said the accused, the uncle of the victim took her to his room and raped her.

As the girl started screaming, family members went and rescued the girl but the accused managed to flee.

The victim's father said she was bleeding profusely.

The child was admitted to Hatibandha Upazila Health Complex.

Anwarul Haque, resident medical officer, said as her physical condition deteriorated, she was referred to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital at night.

Contacted, Hatibandha Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mahmudun Nabi confirmed the incident and said the accused has been absconding since the incident.

Police are conducting drives to arrest him.
