Asif, Nahid identify their Aynaghar cells

Two advisers, Nahid Islam and Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, today identified the secret cells of Aynaghar (house of mirrors), where they were confined after being picked up by plainclothesmen during the July uprising in 2024.

Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus and his team visited three secret detention centres, commonly known as "Aynaghar", today.

The cells are at the joint interrogation cell under the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI), inside CPC-3 (a detention centre) under Rab-2 and the Taskforce Intelligence Centre inside the Rab headquarters.

Yunus was accompanied by a selected group of journalists and victims. Nahid and Asif, coordinators of the student movement, were also among the entourage.

During a visit to the DGFI interrogation cell today, Nahid identified his cell. He mentioned that one side of the room had a basin-like structure that was used as a toilet.

After August 5, some of the walls were demolished and some repainted, he added.

Another student leader and an adviser, Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan, was also picked up by law enforcers in plain clothes in July. He was also kept in a secret torture cell. Today, he recognised the cell from its walls. The adviser for youth and sports mentioned that there was exhaust fan at the top of the wall.

Asif told journalists that he was kept incommunicado in the cell for four days. Even when he had to go to the toilet, his captors would blindfold him and then allow him out of the cell.
