Army seizes firearms, explosives from Banalata Express in Dhaka
Bangladesh Army recovered a large cache of foreign firearms and explosives from Banalata Express, a train runs on Dhaka-Rajshahi route, during a special operation at Airport Railway Station in Dhaka this morning.
According to Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the seized items include eight foreign-made pistols, 14 magazines, 26 rounds of ammunition, 2.39 kg of gunpowder, and 2.23 kg of plastic explosives.
The operation was conducted by 46th Independent Infantry Brigade between 11:15am and 12:00pm, based on intelligence reports suggesting that arms and explosives were being smuggled aboard the Rajshahi-bound intercity train.
Acting on the tip-off, the army team — working in close coordination with Dhaka Railway Police — searched a specific coach of the train and recovered the arms, ammunition and explosives.
No casualties or damage occurred during the operation.
The weapons and explosives were handed over to Dhaka Railway Police Station.
