3-year-old boy killed in Narsingdi, mother on the run

A three-year-old boy was killed allegedly by his mother at their residence in Narsingdi's Raipura upazila last night, locals said.

The deceased, Anas, was the son of Saudi expatriate Dalim Mia and Shirina Begum.

Shirina has been on the run since the incident took place around 8:30pm in South Mirzangor area of Amirgan union, said Md Adil Mahmud, officer-in-charge of Raipura Police Station.

According to locals and police, Dalim Mia, 32, married Shirina, 28, five years ago. Three years into their marriage, Dalim left for Saudi Arabia, and since then, Shirina along with her son Anas has been living with her in-laws.

Abu Bakr Siddiq, a member of Amirgan Union Parishad, said that on last night, Shirina allegedly strangled Anas at their house before fleeing the scene. The child's grandmother, who was engaged in Taraweeh prayers in an adjacent room, heard a commotion and rushed in to find her grandchild's body, he said.

However, she could not determine a motive behind the incident.

OC Adil Mahmud said, "Upon receiving information, police arrived at the scene, recovered the body, and sent it to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital for an autopsy. No case has been filed yet, and no arrests have been made so far. Authorities are actively pursuing leads to locate the fugitive mother."
