2 killed over land dispute in B’baria

Two persons were killed and 12 others injured in a clash between two groups over land in Sarail upazila of Brahmanbaria yesterday.

The deceased -- Azad Ali, 58, and Amanat Ali, 60 -- were from Bishutara village in Kalikachho union.

Police and locals say the conflict between Azad Ali and his stepbrother Sayed Ali started 11 years ago.

Yesterday morning, Amanat's family members entered Azad's house and attacked him with a sharp weapon, leaving him injured, said locals.

Azad was declared dead at Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital, said Md Rafiqul Hasan, officer-in-charge of Sarail Police Station.

Upon receiving the news of his death, both groups clashed on Sarail-Aruail regional road, injuring Amanat and 12 others, the OC added.

Amanat succumbed to his injuries at the hospital around 11:00am, he said.

OC Rafiqul said, "The bodies of the deceased have been kept at Brahmanbaria General Hospital morgue. Police have been deployed at the village, and the situation is currently under control."

He said they are trying to arrest those involved in the incident.
