103 cops including Benazir, Asaduzzaman stripped of medals

82 senior police officers made OSD

The home ministry has stripped 103 police officers of their medals awarded in 2018.

Bangladesh's former top cop Benazir Ahmed and former Dhaka police commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia are among the 103.

A gazette notification signed by senior secretary of the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs Tawsif Ahmed was issued yesterday.

The notification states that the Bangladesh Police Medal (BPM), Bangladesh Police Medal (BPM-Service), President's Police Medal (PPM), and President's Police Medal (PPM-Service) awarded to 103 officers directly involved in the controversial 10th National Parliamentary Election held on December 30, 2018, have been revoked as per instructions.

The 2018 election is widely alleged to have taken place on the eve of the election rather than on the day of the election.
