Two killed as bikes collide in Moulvibazar

A retired college teacher and a young man lost their lives in a head-on collision between two motorcycles in Barlekha upazila of Moulvibazar last night.

The deceased were identified as Subhash Chandra Debnath, 65, former vice-principal of Barlekha Degree College and a resident of Hatband area in Ward-2 of Barlekha municipality, and Fahad Mansur, 23, son of Abdul Mukit from Murigul area in Ward-5.

The accident occurred in the Dakshinbazar area of the municipality's main road. According to locals, Fahad's motorcycle, moving at high speed, collided with Subhash's motorcycle coming from the opposite direction.

Both riders sustained critical injuries and were initially taken to Barlekha Upazila Health Complex. As their condition worsened, they were referred to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital. However, their families admitted them to two separate private hospitals in Sylhet, where Fahad succumbed to his injuries last night, followed by Subhash later that night.

Another person injured in the crash is currently undergoing treatment.

Confirming the incident, Barlekha Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abul Kashem Sarkar said that the victims died while receiving treatment.

He added that no complaint has been filed regarding the accident.
