Road accidents kill four in three districts

Four people were killed and 10 were injured in separate road accidents in Bandarban, Faridpur, and Naogaon districts today.

Among them, two were killed in Bandarban and one each in Faridpur and Naogaon.

In Bandarban, a truck helper was killed after the vehicle lost control at a sharp curve and crashed into a mountain wall on the Bandarban-Keranihat road at Manurtek, near Bandarban bus station, around noon.

The deceased was identified as Shamsul Islam, 45, son of Md Hasan Ali of Mymensingh's Muktagacha.

According to Bandarban Fire Service, the accident occurred when the truck, carrying sugar for the Bandarban Police Lines ration store, was heading towards Bandarban from Dhaka. Truck helper Shamsul died on the spot, and five people, including Inspector Iqbal Hossain Chowdhury, the in-charge of the Bandarban Police Lines Ration Store, were injured in the accident. The injured were taken to Bandarban Sadar Hospital, said Mohammad Abdur Rauf, an officer at the district fire service station. The truck driver fled the scene.

In another accident, a motorcyclist named Md Hossain, 35, was killed after a cement-laden truck hit his bike near Bandarban University around 12:00pm, said Masud Parvez, officer-in-charge of Bandarban Sadar Police Station.

Meanwhile in Faridpur, a college student was killed and five others were injured after a battery-run auto-rickshaw carrying them fell into a roadside ditch in front of Sadarpur Mohila College in Noiroshi area under Sadarpur upazila this morning.

The deceased, Mostafizur Rahman, 17, was a student of Sadarpur Government College and son of Farhad Matubbar of Koshabhanga village under the same upazila, said Abdul Motalab, officer-in-charge of Sadarpur Police Station.

The injured were taken to Sadarpur Upazila Health Complex, the OC added.

In Naogaon, Kamal Hossain, 45, a motorcyclist, was killed after his bike was hit by a picnic bus at Biharinnagar intersection in Dhamoirhat upazila around 7:30pm, said police.

Kamal, son of Yad Ali of Uttar Chakjodu village in Dhamoirhat upazila, was a photocopy business owner.

Raisul Islam, officer-in-charge of Dhamoirhat Police Station, said upon receiving the news, police recovered the body from the spot and took it to the police station.

The body was later handed over to the family after completing necessary formalities, the OC added.
