Fire at Jahangir Tower in Karwan Bazar under control

A fire that broke out on the ground floor of Jahangir Tower in the capital's Karwan Bazar area tonight was brought under control in half an hour.

Receiving information at 8:22pm, two fire engines went to the spot and brought the flames under control by 8:50pm, said Md Shahjahan, duty officer at Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters.

The fire originated at a café located on the ground floor of the building.

However, the smoke from the fire spread to different floors of the building, causing several occupants to seek refuge on the rooftop.

Jahangir Tower is also home to the office of private television channel Ekushey TV.

Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire and assessing the extent of the damage.

No casualties have been reported so far.
