3 children drown in pond during wedding celebration in Habiganj

Three children drowned in a pond during a wedding celebration at Chanpur Tea Garden in Habiganj's Chunarughat upazila this afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Moskan Akhter, 13; Shamima Akhter, 12; and Sania Akhter, 9, all from the Ramganga area of the upazila.

Locals said the children had accompanied their families to a relative's wedding. While preparations were underway, they went to play near a pond and later went into the water. None of them could swim.

They were rescued by locals and taken to the Chunarughat Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared them dead.

Chunarughat Police Station's Officer-in-Charge Zahidul Islam confirmed the incident, saying the bodies had been recovered.
