One person was killed and at least 15 others were injured when a bus rammed into the rear of a stationary truck on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway in Munshiganj’s Sirajdikhan upazila early today.

The accident occurred around 5:00am near the Nimtala Railway Station area, said Dewan Azad Hossain, station officer of Sreenagar Fire Service and Civil Defence.

He said a bus of Purbasha Paribahan, travelling on the Dhaka-bound lane, hit a stationary truck from behind at high speed.

The impact left the front portion of the bus severely mangled, trapping several passengers inside. One person died on the spot, while at least 15 others were injured.

Fire service personnel rushed to the scene after being informed, rescued the injured, and took them to Sreenagar Upazila Health Complex. As the condition of several injured passengers worsened, they were later referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for advanced treatment.

“The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately. The body has been kept at Hasara Highway Police Station,” fire service official Dewan added.
