Families of sacked members of Bangladesh Rifles, now Border Guard Bangladesh, blocked the Shahbagh intersection yesterday afternoon to press home their demands, including freeing those who are in jail in connection with BDR mutiny and the reinstatement of dismissed personnel. The gathering caused traffic congestion in the area. Photo: Amran Hossain

Two young people carry dried paddy stems (rice straw) to their homes for cattle fodder. Farmers now use combine harvesters to harvest paddy and separate the grain from the stem on the field, which saves time and reduces labour costs. The photo was taken in Shiber Bazar village of Sylhet Sadar upazila recently. Photo: Sheikh Nasir

A goods-laden pickup crosses a rickety bailey bridge over the Turag river beneath a flyover in Tongi, Gazipur. Although the bridge is designed only for lighter vehicles, it is frequently used by the heavy ones. This practice led to the collapse of a nearby bailey bridge last week, yet drivers continue to use this one amid risk. The photo was taken at Abdullahpur recently. Photo: Anisur Rahman

Fishermen along the Cox’s Bazar seashore use large nets to catch fish, but these nets often trap other marine creatures such as jellyfish, pufferfish, and turtles. While turtles are usually able to survive, many other aquatic animals are left stranded instead of being returned to the sea, posing a threat to marine biodiversity. The photo was taken at Shamnapur Ghat recently. Photo: Rajib Raihan

Belal, a farmer, lets his flock of ducks graze this open field. After the Aman rice harvest, most fields in the area remain vacant and are used by farmers to raise ducklings seasonally. The photo was taken from the Pagla area of Shantiganj upazila in Sunamganj yesterday. Photo: Sheikh Nasir
