Travel ban issued against former minister Mozammel Haque

A Dhaka court today issued a travel ban on former Liberation War Affairs minister AKM Mozammel Haque in connection with corruption allegations brought against him.
Judge Md Zakir Hossain of Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge's Court passed the order after ACC Deputy Director Md Monirul Islam, who is leading the investigation team, submitted an application.
ACC Public Prosecutor Mahmud Hossain Jahangir moved the application on behalf of the anti-graft body.
In the application, the ACC official said the former minister amassed a huge amount of wealth through irregularities and corruption in his name and the names of his family.
"The former minister was trying to flee the country. So, an order is needed to prevent him from going abroad," said the ACC official in his application.
The judge also ordered the ACC to send a copy of the order to the special superintendent of police (immigration) of the Special Branch for the next course of action.
