A girl was stabbed to death by an unknown person in Dhaka's Dakshinkhan area last night.

The victim was identified as Alo Akter (17), who worked at a local pant washing plant.

Alo was taking a shower after returning home from the factory at around 9:30pm when the murder took place, said Alo's brother-in-law Omar Faruk.

"As she suddenly started screaming, we rushed to the bathroom just outside the house and saw her in a pool of blood," he added.

The family could not see the stabber as he fled, but it is suspected that he was a youth who had a love affair with the girl.

Her body bore stab marks in the chest, abdomen and back, said Abdul Aziz, a sub-inspector of Dakshinkhan Police Station.

Police sent the body to Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy.

A drive is on to arrest the killer, police said.
