Re-elect AL for better future

Hasina urges people in her last speech in 10th parliament

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in her parliament speech last night urged the people to vote for the Awami League, saying more time is needed to complete the mega projects and measures initiated by her government.

“We have undertaken mega projects and measures. We want to build the future of the country's people …. We need some more time to complete those,” she said.

The PM made the remark in her valedictory speech at the last session of current parliament.

In her 50-minute speech, Hasina said it is the people of Bangladesh who can give her government the opportunity to complete the mega projects and measures.

“If they give us the opportunity to serve them again by voting us in the next election, we'll definitely be able to reach the goal we set for making Bangladesh not only a developing country but also a poverty- and hunger-free one by 2021.”

Hasina said she believes the people will surely cast their ballots for “Boat”, the electoral symbol of AL.

She said her government had been able to rid Bangladesh of terrorism by conducting anti-militancy operations and now drives against narcotics are on.

Terming the Anti-Corruption Commission independent, the PM said the watchdog is fighting graft. “Inshallah, if we can come to power again, we will be able to make the country free from corruption.”

Mentioning that she has nothing to gain personally, the prime minister said she had to face grenade, bullet and bomb attacks. “I know I may die any time. But I will keep myself engaged in serving the people of the country as long as I am alive.”

Hasina said she works hard round-the-clock not in her own interest but for the wellbeing of the people so that they can get a decent life as dreamt by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

“So, I'll request the countrymen to vote for us and again give us the opportunity to serve you. Inshallah, this Bangladesh will not lag behind. Bangladesh is marching forward with invincible pace and will continue to do so.”

The PM thanked the opposition party and the opposition leader for playing constructive roles in the 10th parliament.

She said no indecent or vulgar word was heard in this parliament. And the negative impression about the Jatiya Sangsad has been removed from people's mind.

The foundation of democracy was strengthened further and the public confidence in democracy restored because of the 10th parliament, she added.
