Human vs elephants
The main reason for declining elephant population is destruction of elephants habitat and food resources by humans. This often leads to conflict between humans and elephants. According to the forest department, between 2003-2015, elephants killed 226 people while people killed 62 elephants.
The highest number of 33 humans were killed by elephants in 2010 while the highest number of seven elephants each were killed by humans in 2009 and 2014.
