Heavy rains in Khulna under influence of cyclone 'Sitrang'

Under the influence of cyclone 'Sitrang', Khulna and its adjoining districts have been experiencing heavy rainfall. 

After hearing about the cyclone, coastal people of the southern region got panicked. Embankments in the areas were built in 1960 and there was a possibility that high tidal surges caused by the cyclone could damage those.

A total of 409 shelters have been kept ready in the district -- 118 are in Dakop, 27 in Batiaghata, 117 in Koyra, 25 in Dumuria, 32 in Paikgachha, 22 in Terkhada, 39 in Rupsa, 13 in Phultala and 16 in Dighalia.
