Floods, landslides kill 30 so far in Cox’s Bazar, Bandarban

Flooding caused by incessant rain in Cox's Bazar and Bandarban for the last week have killed at least 30 people.

Among the deceased, 20 were from Cox's Bazar and 10 from Bandarban, according to administrations of the two districts.

The deaths were reported in last four days.

Drowning was the leading cause of deaths in Cox's Bazar while the most deaths in Bandarban were caused by landslides.

In Cox's Bazar, Chakaria upazila is the most affected area where flooding claimed lives of 11 people.

Six people died in Pekua upazila.

In Bandarban, seven out of the 10 reported deaths were from landslides.

Bibhisan Kanti Das, additional deputy commissioner of Cox's Bazar, said around 480,000 people have been affected by the flash floods in the district.

Relief distribution among the distressed people will continue till it is required, he said.
