Zendaya joins ‘Shrek 5’ cast as new teaser drops

Universal Pictures unveiled a fresh teaser clip yesterday, confirming that Zendaya has joined the voice cast of "Shrek 5". The upcoming instalment will also see the return of the franchise's legendary voices, with Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, and Eddie Murphy reprising their iconic roles in the beloved animated series.
In the newly released clip from Universal Studios, Donkey playfully questions the magic mirror about the fairest of them all, sparking a humorous exchange as Shrek, Fiona, and Zendaya's character—revealed to be their daughter.
Adding to the fun, Pinocchio makes a brief appearance, delivering one of his classic nose-growing fibs, adding to the playful atmosphere of the clip.
As reported by People, fans are already buzzing with excitement over the beloved characters' interactions and the introduction of a new member to the Shrek family.
The video's caption teases, "Far, Far Away's finest are coming." Interestingly, back in 2017, "Euphoria" star Zendaya took to X (formerly Twitter) to share, "I watch Shrek too often in my adulthood."
Bringing the moment full circle, the official Shrek account recently resurfaced her old post, adding a witty response, "This aged well."
The "Shrek" saga began in 2001, instantly capturing audiences worldwide and earning an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Its success paved the way for three sequels— "Shrek 2" (2004), "Shrek the Third" (2007), and "Shrek Forever After" (2010)—each cementing the franchise's place in pop culture.
Antonio Banderas' beloved character, Puss in Boots, also stepped into the spotlight with his own spin-offs, "Puss in Boots" (2011) and "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish" (2022).
Now, after more than a decade, fans can gear up for the long-awaited "Shrek 5", set to hit theatres on December 23, 2026, bringing a new chapter to the legendary animated series.
