‘Utshob’ clocks rare 200-day theatrical run
A Bangladeshi film has achieved a rare milestone by running continuously in theatres for 200 days, even after being released on OTT platforms four months ago. The film is Tanim Noor's Eid release "Utshob", which continues to attract audiences to cinemas.
Currently, "Utshob" is being screened at Jamuna Blockbuster in Dhaka and Lion Cinemas in Keraniganj. The film has one daily show at Jamuna Blockbuster, while three shows are running at Lion Cinemas, indicating sustained audience interest.
While extended theatrical runs are common for popular Hollywood or Bollywood films, such longevity is unusual for Bengali cinema. In recent years, drawing audiences to theatres has become increasingly challenging. Against this backdrop, "Utshob" has emerged as a rare success story and a source of optimism for the industry.
Speaking to Prothom Alo, filmmaker Tanim Noor described the development as encouraging. "The news is joyful. I have already started working on my next film, and 'Utshob' is still running. Through this film, I have received immense love from the audience, and I hope to receive the same affection for 'Bonlota Express' ," he said.
At a time when film releases are largely limited to special occasions and most releases struggle to meet box office expectations, "Utshob" has stood out commercially as well. Over its 200-day run, the film has earned more than Tk 100 million from the domestic market alone. Including overseas collections, total earnings have surpassed Tk 130 million, all generated solely through ticket sales.
