‘The Mummy’ star Arnold Vosloo joins Vijay Deverakonda’s upcoming period drama

South African–American actor Arnold Vosloo, known worldwide for his unforgettable turn as Imhotep in 1999's "The Mummy", has joined the shoot of Vijay Deverakonda's next period drama with director Rahul Sankrityan.

A publicity representative shared a photograph of the Hollywood actor on set, showing Vosloo posing casually beside a crew member near a line of vanity vans. Sharing the image, he wrote: "#VD14 | Vijay Deverakonda – Rahul Sankrityan. 'The Mummy' villain South African star #ArnoldVosloo."

The post quickly spread across social media, especially Reddit, where fans expressed a wave of childhood nostalgia and excitement.

One Reddit user wrote, "If someone had told younger me that he'd act in movies in my language, I would have laughed." Another recalled, "I used to be terrified of him back then." Others simply chanted "Imhotep" or jokingly wrote, "Mummy returns."

About the film

The project, tentatively referred to as "VD 14", is produced by Mythri Movie Makers and marks Deverakonda's second collaboration with Rahul Sankrityan after the 2018 film "Taxiwaala". The story is set between 1854 and 1878, during the height of British colonial rule in India, and is said to draw from historical events.

Deverakonda's first-look poster, released on his birthday, depicted him as a meditating warrior. He will reportedly play a horseman from Rayalaseema. While the full cast is yet to be announced, industry buzz suggests that Vosloo is likely to play a British officer and possibly the film's antagonist. There is also speculation that Rashmika Mandanna may join the project, though no official confirmation has been given.
