Suchitra Sen, a legendary actress of Bangla cinema, was born in her maternal grandfather's residence on April 6 in 1931 at Bhangabari of Sirajganj, and grew up at her ancestral house in Gopalpur Hem Sagor Lane in Pabna town.
A colourful procession was brought out in front of the Pabna Deputy Commissioner office, organized by the district administration along with the Suchitra Sen Smrity Shangrakhhan Parishad at about 10.30 am today. Despite the short time restrictions due to Ramadan, people from all walks of life paid homage to actor's memories on her 92nd birthday.
Present at the discussion were Deputy Commissioner of Pabna district, Bishwas Russel Hossain, who moderated the gathering, holding discourse with Pabna Police Super Akbar Ali Munshi, President of Suchitra Sen Smrity Shangrakhhan Parishad, Dr. Ram Dulal Voumik, and President of Pabna Press club ABM Fazlur Rahman.
The speakers highlighted the life and works of the artiste Suchitra Sen, demanding to establish a full-fledged Shanggrahshala at her ancestral house in Pabna.
The historic house of Suchitra Sen at the Hemsagor lane was freed from the occupiers on July, 16 in 2016 according to high court order. District administration however kept the house and opened for the visitors.
There is a statue of Suchitra in front of the building and the Shangrahashala is full of pictures from her films. There is also a room for watching her films.
Although the administration has taken the steps to enrich the archive, the response for donation of memorabilia has been scant so far.
